A Question for You

When I started this blog, I concerned myself only with writing something that mattered to me and the people who shared my profession. It was a place for me to express myself and share what I know.

It was also a place where I could read the reactions and comments of my colleagues, and hear other perspectives. I have learned more from this blog than I ever dreamt possible, thanks to the intelligent and informed readership.

Recently, my son noticed my blog and asked why I didn't have any ads or other forms of promotion on it. I told him it didn't interest me to do so. He went on to explain that if I wanted the blog to grow and progress, it would be smart to add some things like banners and advertising, to develop it into a more official site.

I love my boy, and the fact that he wants to work with me to make my blog become more popular and savvy is exciting. It's like a project we can share, which doesn't happen often now that he's a teenager.

My question to you, dear reader, is what do you think? Would you be bothered by a few inconspicuous banners or advertising? Your opinion matters the most, so I will seriously consider whatever you have to say on the subject.

I like reading your blog and prefer it to other BECAUSE it doesn't have advertizing and banners and things to distract me from your point.

I don't see the need for banners, etc. You aren't trying to sell a product and we don't want to be sold a product. This should be an information sharing site only.

DON'T COMMERCIALIZE IT!
LEAVE THE SIGNS OFF!

I also enjoy the commercial free aspect.

Please, no ads or banners. We are all overwhelmed by commercialism and your lack thereof is appreciated.

I agree with all the other responses - no adds or banners. I'm curious, though, as to the reasoning behind your son's suggestion. How does the addition of ads and banners grow the blog and/or make it more professional?

I appreciate the fact that there are no annoying advertisments or banners. In todays day of spam and distracting ads I would probably be less likely to visit your blog. I'v never commented until today. I really enjoy reading your blogs and have learned so much.
Thanks

I beleive that banners will distract from th message. Your blog is personal, like talking to a friend. Please do not clutter it up. Thanks for asking, very thoughtful of you.

I also would prefer no ads - and would probably not read your blog postings if you start including ads on the site. I do find your posts interesting and pertinent - thanks! - but would bypass it to avoid the ads.

I don't mind ads at all. I simply ignore them (just like I do everywhere else), and they bring in a little compensation for your time. Being "overwhelmed by commercialism" just makes it easier to ignore one more bit of it.

I'm with Mary in wondering how ads will make your site more professional, though. I know that he's interested in helping, and I'd certainly understand if you turned over advertising duties to him so you'd have a shared project, but I don't agree with his reasoning.

I like reading the reactions of other Healthcare professionals and like your blog just the way it is.

I enjoy your blog, tho I don't often have time to participate. I would not be bothered by advertising. I think it would benefit from some spiffing up

Ads and banners do not make a website more professional, nor will they make this blog grow as you are not selling a product or service. In fact, ads and banners will encourange me to STOP reading and participating. I like the atmosphere of this blog and enjoy reading everyone's opinions and suggestions. Let's keep it professional.
